My Worst and Pathetic 32 hours at Fortis Mulund Hospital

Hi Everybody, I would like to share my worst and pathetic experience at Fortis Mulund(Mumbai).

I was suffering from contraction at the right side of Abdomen and Dr Purshottam Vashisht had given some medicines and asked me to get admitted if contraction or  pain increases and suggested the tests (CT scan, Endoscopy and Colonoscopy). On 6,7 and 8th of Aug felt the contraction ups and down so thought of getting  admitted and on 9th Aug(friday) at 12:30 I was admitted in emergency ward and below are my detailed worst experience with Fortis Mulund.

1)       I went to hospital an empty stomach as suggested by doctor, nurse put the prick on my left hand and took the blood sample for tests an injection for stomach pain relief. I asked them plenty of times what you planning to do with me but either they said doctor will come and let me know or they did not talk properly. Around 3 pm they asked me for sandwich and juice, I said what about my CT scan and Endoscopy tests? They said that will happen tomorrow. I asked why but again did not get proper response. Around 6-7 pm they shifted me from emergency ward to the room. Till now no proper communication.

2)       In evening between 7-8 doctor came and discuss few things with doctor and he told me that they will do that CT scan, i said i had sandwich and juice around 3pm. he said no issues, It was strange for me because as i know people should be an empty stomach for CT scan.

3)       I got full jug liquid medicines and asked me to finish it an hour but there were no glass provided, how will I drink? I told to nurse you did not give me glass, she said ohh you did not get glass and left the room. Till 5-10 minutes I did not get the glass. Finally ward boy came with dinner and he was having glass. I asked him to get the dinner once I will be back from CT scan test. I finished the medicines but was not sure when they will take me for CT scan, I called nurse and asked then she called to the CT scan dept and said she has informed about an hour ago for CT scan(this kind of discussion was happening at night) I was feeling hungry and asked nurse to get the CT scan done asap or I will have my dinner.

4)       Around at 10:30 went to CT scan room and the moment nurse put the injection(contrast) I screamed and got unbearable pain. And got the immediate swelling in veins
and also was started shivering. I am not sure they put injection in wrong way(very fast) or what was the exact reason. As I had done my CT scan in 2011 without such kind of reaction.

5)       Around 11:30 pm I asked nurse to give me towel and hand towel(they should provide all basic thing before I shifted to the room)

6)       I came back to the room and was having pain so pressed the alarm button to call the nurse  but nobody came unless I pressed the emergency button. This happened 3-4 times on Friday night. On emergency call nurse came and I showed my hand told its paining a lot she listened said OK  and left the room but did not get anything(pain killer, ointment or doctor) 2-3 times I had to press emergency alarm to call the nurse as they were not coming on normal alarm button. Finally 1 nurse removed the prick and gave the ice pad. I asked her to call the doctor as I wanted to discuss about pain and swelling. Finally after 45 minutes doctor came and said it is an infection and gave the antibiotic. I had fruits and khichdi from dinner tray and had medicines and slept.

7)       There was thermometer to check my fever but next day nurse took that without checking my fever not even opened the pack and they charged that thermometer in the bill but did not even give me while I was getting discharged.

8)       Saturday morning nurse woke me up to have the 1 jar liquid medicines for endoscopy I finished the medicines and after sometimes went to endoscopy dept and done my endoscopy and colonoscopy properly without any issue(Thank god).

9)       On sat evening struggled to get release from hospital because again no proper communication. I went to reception and collected the tests report and there nurse told about the medicines when to have. Would you believe she told me wrong information about 1 medicine(Sompraz HP) I asked her to check with doctor 1 medicines I should take before breakfast but she told all the medicines I have to take after food. Finally she called doctor and confirmed that she was wrong, did not even apologies (strange) and also talked with assistant doctor on phone during my release at reception. I was expecting during release doctor should come and explain about the tests reports and what is the next plan what the problem they diagnosed for which they are giving medicines.

10)     At the reception I asked nurse to put some ointment on my hand as pain and swelling was still there. Nurse said they do not have ointment (she said like this because my billing was done). What the hell is happening in the hospital they are billing for 50k+ and just for little amount of ointment she is telling like this. Finally I asked her to give a call to doctor I want to talk with my doctor. I told about the ointment incident to doctor Shikha, she told nurse to give me ointment. After sometimes I got the ointment “Thrombophob”. Because of that ointment I got the red patches on my hand. Not sure whether that ointment works like that or got some skin infection for the time being. Red patches goes off after 2-3 hours.

11)     At the billing counter my friend argued about the wrong bill given to us but they were not able to understand or they don’t want to understand. Then we called to our insurance company and cross checked about the bill given to us and found they were charging extra 3600 rs. We forced them to cross check again and then they agree about the mistake

I went to hospital with stomach problem and went back along with Hand infection just because of nurse was not properly trained.

On Tuesday morning I realized that swelling and in the veins has been increased, then went back to hospital where Dr Purshottam Vashisht referred me to Surgeon Dr Arulvanan. Not sure why did he refer me to surgeon. Finally I got bandaged on my hand by Dr Arulvanan

he said if the pain and swelling will not go off in 2-3 days then I will have to again admit for 2-3 days.

Prescription: Medicines given by Dr. Purshottam Vashisht for stomac: Sibofix 200mg, Sompraz HP kit, Cap Vibact and Tab Drotin.
Medicines Given by Dr. Arulvanan for hand infection: Augmentin 625 Duo and Emanzen D
I hope there should not be any kind of reaction with medcines suggested by doctors(Fingures crossed)

Conclusion: As per my personal experience I felt that Fortis Mulund is having big communication problem at the staff level mainly with nurses and also they are not trained enough to assist the patient and Doctors should spend proper time with patient until they get clear idea about the problem and the medicines

Update on 30th Aug: On 30th of Aug, I called to my insurance company to check when will they deposite the money to Fortis hospital, Insurance people said they have already deposited on 22nd of aug.
Now my question why Fortis did not yet informed me to collect my security money as well as extra money charged to me. Immediately i called to Dr Nimisha and asked her why i did not get the call from your Finance dept. She said she will check with the Finance dept and ask them to call me. After some times i got the call from Finance team and asked me to come and collect the security money.

I went to Fortis on 31st Aug and met with the doctor Purushottam as my hand infection was still there he said the lotion given by Dr. Arulvanan is not that much effective and also the ointment "Thrombophob" is not much effective. So my Question to Dr. Purushottam Vashisht. Why did you refer me to Dr Arulvanan without seeing my situation.
I have an answer and that is "they have earned money from me" in hindi proverb "Bakra halal ho gya ab kya fark padta hai"

1 thing i would like to say "What the HELL".

  1. Sad to hear. They should be dragged to consumer court. They are just interested in earning easy money.
